The Energy of the Equinox: Entering a New Season of You

I have been super excited for this weekend, as it marks the equinox.
A moment in time where day and night are equal and light and dark held in perfect balance across the Earth.
In astrology and spiritual traditions, the equinox is often seen as the true beginning of a new year. A recalibration of where you are… and where you’re being guided to next.
The Ancient Meaning of the Equinox
Being drawn to this energy led me to explore its deeper meaning, how it was honoured in ancient times and how we can apply it in our modern day-to-day
Long before modern calendars, ancient civilisations recognised the equinox as a sacred turning point.
At Stonehenge, the stones align with the sunrise during this time, marking cycles of renewal and transition. In Ancient Egypt, temples and pyramids were built in alignment with celestial events, symbolising balance between life and death, light and shadow.
Across cultures, the equinox was seen as a return to balance. A reminder that life moves in cycles, and that we are always allowed to begin again.
Two Hemispheres, Two Energies
What I love about the equinox is that it holds both endings and beginnings at once, depending on where you are in the world. And we all know that you can’t have a rebirth or a new beginning, without an ending.
If you’re in the Southern Hemisphere (like me in Australia)
This is your autumn equinox.
A season of:
slowing down
reflecting
releasing
integrating everything you’ve moved through
It’s less about doing… and more about honouring.
Honouring your growth.Your healing.Your lessons.
I think of warm teas, soft blankets, earthy tonesbrowns, oranges, muted golds.
There’s beauty in letting things fall away naturally. Just like leaves from a tree.
If you’re in the Northern Hemisphere
This is your spring equinox.
A season of:
new beginnings
planting seeds
fresh ideas
expansion
It’s the energy of blooming into what you’ve been preparing for.
Think:
soft pastels
fresh flowers
lightness returning
A soft reset.
Equinox Rituals (Wherever You Are)
To make the most of this energy, you don’t need anything fancy…you can just practice simple rituals with intention.
Spring (Northern Hemisphere)
Revisit or refresh your vision board
Set new intentions that feel aligned for where you are right now
Light a candle and welcome in new beginnings
Bring fresh flowers into your space
Spend time in nature, reconnecting to growth energy
Autumn (Southern Hemisphere)
Journal and reflect on the past few months
Ask yourself: what is no longer aligned with who I am becoming?
Write down things that you’re ready to release
Let go symbolically (tear, burn, or close the page)
Simplify your schedule and create space
This is also a time for gratitude.
For everything that did work and how far you’ve come.
If You Feel Both…
Sometimes you might feel like you’re in between both worlds.
Letting go…while also calling something new in.
But don’t worry, there’s no rules. You’re allowed to hold both.
You can do the releasing work and then plant new seeds and intentions after.
After a busy, hectic summer, this March has felt softer and quieter. Exactly what I needed.
And maybe that’s what this season is really asking of usnot to become more…but to come back to ourselves.
