The Part of Healing We Don't Talk About Enough: Anger

Last week, I found myself feeling angry. Not just a little frustrated, but deeply angry. For a moment, I almost felt guilty for admitting that.
We're surrounded by messages telling us to stay positive, trust the timing of our lives, surrender to the universe, believe everything is happening for a reason and keep showing up without expecting anything in return.
And while I believe there is wisdom in many of those ideas, sometimes they leave very little room for being human.
Because life can be incredibly unfair.
Sometimes you spend months or years healing from something that completely knocked the wind out of you. You slowly piece yourself back together, begin to hope again and finally feel like you're moving forward.
Then something else happens.
It can feel as though the rug has been pulled out from underneath you all over again.
You find yourself asking questions you're almost afraid to say out loud.
“Why is this happening?”
“Will things ever get easier”
“Do other people have it easier than I do?”
And almost immediately, another voice appears.
"Other people have it worse."
"You should be grateful."
"You should be stronger than this."
There can be so much shame in simply struggling. But the truth is, we're all carrying something.
No matter how beautiful someone's life looks online, no one's life is lived in constant summer.
There are seasons of joy.
There are seasons of loss.
Seasons of rebuilding.
Seasons where you're simply trying to make it through the day.
If that's where you are right now, I want you to know that I see you.
I see the quiet rebuilding that nobody applauds.
The responsibilities you're carrying.
The strength you've had to find over and over again.
I know how exhausting it can feel.
And I also want to say something that I don't think we hear enough.
It's okay to feel angry. Anger doesn't make you a bad person.
It doesn't mean you've failed spiritually.
It doesn't mean you're ungrateful or lacking faith.
It means something inside you hurts.
For so many of us, anger was never welcomed. We learned to suppress it, minimise it, or judge ourselves for feeling it at all.
But emotions aren't problems to solve.
They're messengers asking to be heard.
Sometimes anger is simply grief wearing a different face.
Sometimes it's your heart recognising that something wasn't fair.
Sometimes it's your nervous system saying, "I can't keep carrying this alone."
And that's okay.
You don't have to bypass your pain to prove you're healing.
You don't have to pretend you're okay because someone online tells you that you can completely transform your life overnight.
Healing doesn't always look like huge breakthroughs.
Sometimes it looks like getting out of bed.
Sometimes it looks like resting.
Sometimes it looks like crying.
Sometimes it looks like allowing yourself to admit, "This is really hard."
Being human was never meant to be easy.
We're living through a world that changes faster than our hearts can always keep up with. We're learning, adapting, grieving old versions of ourselves and trying to build new lives all at the same time.
That's no small thing.
So if there's one thing I hope you take from this week's letter, it's this:
Your pain deserves compassion.
Your anger deserves space.
And you deserve the same kindness you so freely give to everyone else.
I can't promise that life will suddenly become easier tomorrow.
But I do believe that every time you meet yourself with a little more compassion, a little more patience and a little more trust, you build something that no circumstance can take away.
You begin to trust that whatever life brings, you'll find your way through it.
Maybe not perfectly or quickly.
But gently, one step at a time.
With love
Sonia 🤍
