Own What Makes You Different: Why Your Uniqueness Is Your Superpower

Just over a year ago, I made a decision to delete my personal social media account and created a new one.
Not to hide…but to finally show up as myself.
For years, I had been made to feel like who I was wasn’t enough.
As a 5’1 petite woman, I was often at the receiving end of jokes about my height..and not just from strangers, but sometimes from the people closest to me.
But instead of shrinking myself to fit their limited perspectives, I chose something radical:
I owned what made me different.
I decided to stop waiting for approval, stop seeking perfection and stopped seeing myself through the limited perception that those people had of me.
The Moment Everything Shifted
I’ve always loved writing, blogging and capturing little moments through photoshoots with my husband (who happens to be a photography enthusiast).
Long before I ever posted online, I was inspired by the bloggers and creators who showed up unapologetically as themselves.
At a time up upheaval in my life, I saw an instagram post for a petite modelling competition. I applied. While I didn’t win the competition, I was contacted to come in anyway to do a photoshoot. Dismissing it as maybe luck, I put it aside and went on with life.
Then, soon after, an opportunity came up…a photoshoot with one of my favourite wellness brands. My heart lit up…but almost immediately, the doubts rushed in:
What if I’m not good enough?
What if I don’t look like what they’re looking for?
I’m not a model …who would take me seriously?
At the time, I had less than 80 followers. Still, something inside me refused to let the chance pass. So I applied…not pretending to be anything else, but leaning fully into who I was: authentic, real and representing diversity in the media.
And not only did I get the role…
It paid more than I could have ever imagined.
That moment taught me something that I’ll never forget:
You don’t need to wait until you’re “perfect” to start.
You just need to start.
Most importantly, you don’t like to be like everyone else.
You just need to be you.
We’re in a New Era — One Where Uniqueness Is Power
We’re living in a time where beauty standards are evolving and stereotypes are finally being dismantled.
Gone are the days of having to fit into one ideal to be considered valuable, visible, or worthy.
Look at some of the most iconic models and creatives today..it’s their differences that set them apart. Their standout features. Their unshakable presence. Their refusal to dim their light to be “like everyone else.”
And you, too, have that light.
So if you’ve been waiting for a sign to start something… this is it.
Whether it’s building your brand, booking your first shoot, starting that business, launching your page, or simply showing up more authentically online — do it.
Because every time you own your difference, you give permission for someone else to do the same.
Let Go of the Opinions That Weigh You Down
People who constantly comment on your appearance or try to bring you down are often just projecting their own insecurities. It’s not your job to carry that weight.
You’re allowed to limit your time with people who drain your energy or don’t see your value.
You’re allowed to stop waiting for permission to start.
You’re allowed to take up space.
And no, you don’t need a million followers. You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to start (even when you feel the fear!). You never know who you’re silently inspiring along the way.
Keep Shining Anyway
You will only ever be “too much” or “not enough” for the wrong people.
But for the ones who see you, who are inspired by your light…you’ll be exactly what they needed.
And for the ones who once underestimated you?
Let them watch from the sidelines as you glow.
Your difference is not your weakness.
It’s your strength.
It’s your magnetism.
It’s your story.
So whatever makes you different…own that.
Because that’s exactly what makes you unforgettable.
